We realize this is a time of hesitancy based on so many factors, including the upcoming proposed merger. We also understand that up until now we were having difficulty dispersing information. The recent decision to withdraw our petition to vote with IAEP was not one that was made lightly. We believe it is the right move for our entire body of EMTs & Paramedics and it has given us another six months to be forthcoming with all of you and to get these questions answered!

Extremely successful in unionizing departments, yes, even EMS

Support. Since the very first conversation, they have been responsive, encouraging, patient, and most importantly - available.

It made the most sense for how big of a workforce we have at North (close to 600 employees!)

They are an extremely strong and respected union nationwide!
But .. aren't they just a Fire Union?
Not at all! They represent many EMS agencies and Dispatch departments nationwide! Here in Minnesota, they are the union for SCRAPE (St. Cloud Regional Area Paramedics and EMTs.)
How much will our dues be?
The short and easy answer is that our dues will be determined by our executive board once you vote your colleagues into place! We can decide what makes the most sense to build a strong union while also be mindful of keeping the dues low!
But .. what about the Sanford merger?
The pending Sanford merger is the main reason we believe that unionizing is the right decision for us. This played a very large role in deciding to withdraw from the IAEP vote and organizing under a very strong and reputable union.
Fun fact: SCRAPE unionized under MPFF/IAFF two years after Mayo absorbed Gold Cross Ambulance .. not fun fact, the nail in the coffin pushing for unionization was Mayo asking the EMS crews bring their own toilet paper to be used at bases ..
